Pat Kelly & Tim Kelly Retire from Village Links The Village Links is losing two long-time staff members with the retirement of Golf Course Superintendent Tim Kelly and Equipment & Building Maintenance Supervisor Pat Kelly. Tim joined the Grounds Crew in 1968 and became Golf Course Superintendent in 1974. Pat Kelly joined his brother on the Grounds Crew in 1972 and was eventually promoted to Equipment & Building Maintenance Supervisor. (read more)
Pat (left) and Tim (right) Kelly were key members of the Village Links management team, with experience dating back to the earliest days of the facility. Santa was popular at our 16th Annual Holiday Open House Sunday December 10, 2006. Holiday Open House is held every year on the second Sunday in December. We hope to see you next year! 2006 Holiday Open House Raffle Winners Enjoy Special Savings During Our 13th Annual Fall Fest September 16 through November 12 Mosquito Repellant Golf Shirts! Our Golf Shop carries a selection of golf shirts with built in mosquito repellant. The repellant occurs naturally in chrysanthemums. It doesn't bother people, but it bugs the heck out of mosquitos. The manufacturer says that the repellant remains in the shirt through 25 washings. The shirts look and feel like any other - they just keep mosquitos and several other bugs away. The shirts are priced at $69. Check out the selection and available colors the next time you visit the course. Monday July 3, 2006 The last field to compete for four spots in the Western Open was one of the strongest in the 25 years that the event has been held at the Village Links. It took a four under par 68 to advance to the Western Open, with sixteen golfers bettering par. Wednesday June 28, 2006 Fifty golfers shot a four over par 76 or better, to advance to the Western Open Qualifying at the Village Links Monday July 3. Michael Schachner and Joe Affrunti each shot five under par 67 to lead ten golfers who bettered par 72. The 67's shot by Schachner and Affrunti tied the course record set by Kevin PomArleau, of La Quinta, CA in the 2005 Western Open Qualifying. 30th Annual "Have One On Us" - Friday June 16 & Saturday June 17 "Have One On Us" is our annual customer appreciation days, with prizes and giveaways worth more than $40,000 to thank you for visiting the Village Links! You can sign up for the "Have One On Us" Tournaments on Thursday June 8, 5:00 PM. Congratulations to Peter Babilla and Hank DeAngelis for making a hole-in-one on #8 during "Have One On Us". Both golfers win a 2007 Season Pass to the Village Links! Tour Edge Demo Day Friday April 28 - You can try any Tour Edge golf club at the Village Links Driving Range on Friday April 28, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Tour Edge has strong ties to the Village Links. President and Founder Dave Glod and his brother Vice-President Gordon Glod attended Glenbard South High School and worked at the Links. Dave founded Tour Edge in the mid-1980's and it has grown to become a major golf equipment manufacturer. Demo Days We have eight Demo Days scheduled in 2006. Click on the link below for the full schedule. 2006 Demo Days Irv Rosenthal Turns 100! - Long-time Village Links starter and ranger Irv Rosenthal celebrated his 100th birthday at a gala reception held at Idlewild Coutnry Club on March 25, 2006. Irv worked at the Links for ten seasons from 1985-1994. He was on the Board of Directors of the Chicago District Golf Association and is an Honorary Life Member of Idlewild Country Club, where he was introduced to the game of golf as a caddie in 1918 at the age of 12.
Village Links head Golf Professional Emeritus Ed Posh joined over 100 friends and family members in celebrating Irv Rosenthal's 100th Birthday. Irv, seated on the left, looked as dapper as ever. Irv passed away June 29, 2006. He was a great friend to all who knew him. 2006 Course Opening - The 9-hole course opened for the season on regular tees and greens on Friday March 10. The 18-hole course opened Thursday March 30. When Do We Typically Open The Course? March Madness Friday March 17 - Visit the Links for March Madness Night Friday March 17, 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There's our All You Care To Eat Fish Fry in the Village Links Grill and the first sale of the year in the Golf Shop. The Golf Shop sale will last through Sunday March 12.
