2006 will be the 26th time that golfers will try to qualify at the Village Links for a spot in the Western Open, but this year, there's a twist. Most golfers will have to make it though two qualifyings. The Western Open Pre-Qualifying will be held at the Links on Wednesday June 28. The low fifty scores and ties in that 18-hole competition will advance to the Western Open General Qualifying that will be held at the Links on Monday July 3.

The field for the General Qualifying will include those who advanced from the pre-qualifying and approximately twenty-five exempt players, including members of the PGA or PGA Nationwide Tours. The four low qualifiers on July 3 advance to the Cialis Western Open at Cog Hill G&CC in Lemont, IL July 5-8.

We expect that our long tradition of hosting the Western Open Qualifying will come to an end in 2007, when the Western becomes part of a new season finale Fed Ex Cup Series. Changes expected for the Western Open include a date in September and a rotation among Chicago and other Midwest cities. The tournament might even drop the Western Open name, which has been in use since 1899.

We expect that the new format will not include a General Qualifying, eliminating our involvement with the Western. One thing that will not change is that the Village Links will continue to host important local qualifyings, like the US Open Sectional Qualifying that we hosted in 2005.

The Swinging' Set ladies golf league is accepting new members. The league has 9-hole and 18-hole divisions and plays every Tuesday morning May through September. New members need a minimum of 5 scores to compute a handicap and are expected to play ten rounds during the 20-week season. Call membership chairman Barb Hiner at (630) 964-7408 for more information.

The Village Links has room for a weekday evening league. Leagues or individuals looking to join a league should contact Head Golf Professional Noel Allen.

Our popular All-You-Care-to-Eat Friday Fish Frys resume Friday February 10 and continue each week through Thanksgiving. New this year will be Chicken Dinner Night every Wednesday beginning Wednesday February 22.

A shotgun start begins at 9:00 PM and all golfers use special glow in the dark golf balls. Sign up in the Clubhouse three weeks in advance.

The popular Adult Group Lesson Program is a great way for new golfers with little or no experience to learn the fundamentals of the game. Three 1-hour lessons cost $50. Classes, which begin in April, meet 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. weekly for three weeks and are limited to five students per class. Pick up a schedule in the Pro Shop or online.

Junior golfers can sharpen their skills by playing in MOJO, (MOndays for Juniors Only) each Monday morning during summer vacation. Weekly formats focus on stroke play and include prizes. Contact Head Golf Professional Noel Allen.
