2007 should be an interesting year. Sometime in late April, the 3-millionth golfer to ever play the Village Links will tee off. On July 16, the course will celebrate it's 40th anniversary.
In 2007 we will experiment with a new Back Nine Combo option that will allow early morning weekend Permanent Time groups to play the back nine of the 18-hole course followed by our 9-Hole Course. This option, will create ten additional Permanent Tee Times before 7:00 a.m. on both Saturdays and Sundays. While this option might help some foursomes who otherwise would pass on a time drawn late in the lottery, there are complications that make this a less than perfect alternative for golfers. We will welcome your feedback at the end of the season.
The Village Links will host a Women's U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying for the first time ever on Monday June 11, 2007.
When this qualifying was last held in the Chicago area at Wynstone C.C in North Barrington in 2005, the fourteen players who advanced to the U.S. Women's Open hailed from nine different states and five foreign countries. 36-hole qualifying scores ranged from 3-under par to 3-over par. Qualifiers on June 11 will advance to the 2007 Women's U.S. Open Championship at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club, Southern Pines, NC.
On Monday July 16, we will host a 36-hole tournament that is part of the Illinois Junior Golf Association Tournament Player Series. This will be the first IJGA event ever played at the Village Links.
