2009 USGA Senior Open Qualifying  - Notes

Date: Monday June 29, 2009                        

Format: This was a one day event consisting of 66 amateurs and 24 professionals age 50 and older competing at scratch over 18-holes. The two low qualifiers advanced to the 2009 USGA Senior Open Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club, Carmel, Indiana, July 30 - August 2, 2009.

Eligibility: Professional golfers and amateur golfers who have reached their 50th birthday by July 30, 2009. Amateur golfers must have an up-to-date men's USGA handicap index not exceeding 3.4 strokes.

Field: The field was 90 players. 24 professionals and 66 amateurs.

Qualifyings at the Village Links: This is the first time that a qualifying for the U.S. Senior Open Championship was held at the Village Links. The Village Links has hosted over 35 USGA and PGA Tour Qualifyings. Event History

Course Set Up: The golf course played 6660 yards, par 72. On most holes, the tees were set from the Blue Tees. On four holes, the tees were set at the White Tees.

Weather: The weather was generally cooperative, although persistent winds from the west caused the course to play tougher as the day continued.

Medalist: Chris Pethley was medalist and low amateur.

Other Notes:

Pethley and Cochran were the only players to break or match par.

Pethley and Cochran played in the first threesome of the day.

Tommy Robinson won the three way playoff for 1st alternate with a 36-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole.
