A trio of Northwestern University golfers took the top three spots in the US Amateur Qualifying at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn. David Lipsky of La Canada, CA led the way with a six under par 71-67--138. Reigning Illinois State Amateur Champion Ravi Patel of Evanston, IL and Matthew Dennison of Northbrook, IL finished four shots back at 142. 17-year old Kyle English of Bloomington, IL was the fourth qualifier with a one under par 143.
Ninety players entered the 36-hole qualifying, which was open amateur golfers with a USGA Handicap Index of 2.4 or lower. They competed for four places in the US Amateur. The course played 7186 yards, par 72.
Thunderstorms caused three lengthy suspensions of play in the US Amateur Qualifying at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn Monday August 4. Only 18-holes of play was completed on Monday August 4. The low 30 scores, which included everyone who posted a five over par 77 or better, played the second 18-hole round on Tuesday August 5.
This was the fifth time that the Village Links has hosted a US Amateur Qualifying (1984, 1988, 1993, 1997).
The US Amateur will be played at Pinehurst Resort, Pinehurst, North Carolina August 18-24, 2008.
